ss decontrol get it away 12 ep

repost from march of 2010 because i can and because i've changed my opinion on this record. for historical reasons (and to make this post longer) i'll keep the old review which went like this.

cool ssd. let's put it on. hmm a little slower. oh my god! what is that! is someone taking a shit or dying! oh shit those are the vocals! turn it off! make it stop! do i have to say more. slower, twin guitars, and horible i mean horible vocals. like i said i can't tell if he's taking a shit or being stabbed. and the aweful streightege lyrics! this is the only complete record on the power album. don't get it. spare your ears. and this is coming from someone who loves screeming vocals. it's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!

now for the new review. well after hearing what the original vinyl sounded like my opinion is vastly different. i know why i felt like that. hell the kids lp was amazing with how fast it was and how raw. this is not very fast and kind of clean. but it really is a great record. i can understand how someone may not like springa's voice because it's so damn high but just listen! you can hear the anger. i don't think however that this is one of the greatest punk records ever. the kids is way better. but that doesn't mean it's not a good record. i like that buzcocks cover at the end. the lyrics might not be something i agree with (i'm not streight-edge and i don't like the crew unity thing) but they're from the heart. i'm sure zach will trash this record up and down. whatever. i need some comments about how much people hate records i review. oh and the two guitar attack is amazing. overall this is a great record. get the original though not the power comp. for a record called power the get it away tracks seam very clean and powerless. they don't have any distortion at all. so yeah get the original and start saying how much you hate this record!

negative approach tied down lp

well first let me say that zach is god. you'll find out why soon enough. anyway we all know who negative approach is. i reviewed the self titled 7 some time ago. i actually got the total recall cd with everything by the band on it. a bit more musical than the 7. one hard rock/metal track that is good not great but the rest is amazing. slower but they've grown musically and it works. the production is a little thin though. maybe it's just me. get this on the cd or spend hundreds of bucks. your choice. one more thing. vocals are amazing. i don't need to explain. coming up my first (and maybe only) rereview. well it's my only one if someone doesn't help me with that sfa 7 i asked for help on. the post is the get it away 12 by ss decontrol because my feelings have changed so much that the review i had doesn't mean anything except for it's very funny. i'll keep the original but i'll rereview it. soon. probably not the next post but it's comin up.

void condensed flesh demo tape

well i was looking through this blog and realised i had no void posted. well in order to fill the void (sorry couldn't resist) i will review the demo. produced by some guy named ian who was in some band called minor threat. ever heard of em? haha. good sound to this tape. the only thing i didn't like about the dc hardcore thing is that they were so humorless and void provides nothing to convince me otherwise. oh well. just really brutal hc from 1981? i'm not sure about the year (i need to do research before doing these posts) but what i am sure of is that if you don't have this demo i don't like you very much. and if you have a 7 ep with the title condensed flesh don't worry. the demo was released as a 7. this is also a really powerful demo. i mean just listen to it. as erich said "it makes me want to do things. things!" get this somehow. and leave a comment like brian did (thank you man) or zach does.

atomic raygun attack!

you know today i just thought of a band i really liked that broke up last year (god i'm so up to date) called atomic raygun attack. it was really stupid pop punk. i mean they had lyrics about milkshakes, cows, and weird shit like that. i think if they just sang about girls and tried to make it big i wouldn't have liked them but they were just really silly and fun. they even did an ep about the futurama episode the sting. it wasn't anything i'd put on if i wanted to kill people but it was really fun. it really sucks that they broke up and maybe when eric's done with that tour of the world he'll make some more music. if adyone from the band are reading this thank you for the laughs and the music.

necros i.q. 32 7 ep

first of all zach gets the award for best comment ever. he posted the lyrics for public high-school and a little thing went off in my head and i said it's time for necros. this is great midwest hc with one of the guys from the ever wacky touch and go label on bass i think. the vocals are kind of high but it's still very good. they later said they didn't really like these early 7s but i do. i can relate to them. you know i have to take a break from all those political bands and just sing a song about high-school and shit like that. i hate my school is my song right now. i just love how young these guys are. at least they sound young. later on they went metal and if you can point me to that album i would like to hear it. get this somehow. and remember to leave a comment and try to beat that last one.

Witchaven - Terrorstorm [2010]

i don't know shit about witchaven or at least i didn't until now. i heard about them from a few friends and saw that they did exist. i was supposed to see them live but i think we've been there already. so i was just kind of forgot about them til a friend gave me this cd. what can i say? black/thrash metal from southern california. great shit. a mix of satanic songs with more politcal thrashers. i actually like that mix. why just be satanic or political? i know the satanic songs are just filler but please guys keep it up. too many political bands around saying the same thing. i mean even if you agree with what they say why would you want to listen to the same thing over and over again? now on to the actual music. i like the sound clips that they put in. very nice and it shows that they're at least awhere of what the hell's going on. i don't know why they call it black/thrash. i just call it thrash metal because i never liked subsubsubsubgenres.however i w3uld say that there is a huge black metal influence. they makes me want to pit really hard. the mix is gritty and fucking raw. you know that's why i like unsigned bands. they always have this really raw mix that bands with big producers just lack. it sounds more underground. a lot of metalheads don't like this kind of production. i love it. you can keep all your good producers i'll take a tape recorder. the vocals are a well at least to me they're a hybrid of black metal and thrash metal vocals. very nice. hopefully i get to see these guys live (last show i heard about was le mans week which was out of the question) because it sounds like a good time. one of the better releases of 2010. get it if you like metal. if you don't then stay tuned. hc comin up!

sleep sleep's holy mountain cd

black sabbath called. they want their music back. this is a total ripoff of sabbath. na just joking though it does sound a lot like a ripoff. sleep are a stoner/doom metal band from the 90s. this is the band's second album and the only one i have apart from the amazing vol 2 7 on off the disk records. two of the songs from this album appear on that 7. but enough of that. i love the gui1tar sound on this one. very bloosy feel to it. the vocals range from sabbath-like singing to shouting. maybe not the most original band in the world but it works if you like stoner metal which i really do. the lyrics are total stoner lyrics. i have a friend who likes these guys and i can see why. he also likes prog rock (you know who you are) so i can infer he's hit the bong before. am i the only one who can hear some hardcore punk influence? or maybe it's cause they were asbestos death before sleep. i don't really know and i don't really care. you must get this if you like sabbath or stoner metal.

just another thought post

it's way too early in the morning and i've got my music on. but nothing's jumping at me so let's have another rant. it's funny that when this blog started i didn't think i'd do so many reviews. thank you zach. and to anyone who feels i was bragging on the last post first of all fuck off. second i wasn't bragging. i just meant to say hpr rocks and we've helped each other. i'm not saying anyone came up to me and said that and actually i was very careful about my words. anyway we come to the heart of this post if it has a heart. a great blog i follow said he won't post hardcore because basically it's done all over the net so why should he? first of all you could fix some of these links but anyway that's very interesting. i mean i've always run this blog with a policy of not caring what the other blogs do. wait that sounded way too dickheadish even for me. what i'm saying is if it's something i really like i'm reviewing it no matter how many blogs have it. it would be the same if i was posting mp3s. i know what he means though. over the weekend i had one of these why should i things. it's over now but i said the exact same thing. but then i realised something. what is a blog? it's like a fanzine if you ask me. at least for me. granted sometimes i don't write much and i'm really sorry for that and i know my spelling sucks. but really i just love the music. i love it so much that in december of last year i started putting dow what i think about music in the hopes that someone whuld share my demonic music love. that's all it is. i'm not some dude who was in a band 30 years ago. i'm not some dick who thinks everyone should listen to me and i'm not 7inchpunk.com. i'm a fan. that's all. just thought you'd like to read that. i don't know. there was going to be a third thing i was going to write but i forgot. review coming.

happy birthday hardcore punk reviews!

yes the amazing hardcore punk reviews is one year old. i haven't checked the blog to see if he's done anything on this because i just got home. anyway it was founded by some guy named zach in some country called canada. anyway his blog ran pretty good for like three months. then he stopped by the eslod (elliott sucks layer of death) and gave a link to his blog. one of the things that made me save his blog in my favorites was the way he just gave his opinion even if sometimes i'd wonder what was in the water over in canada. haha. anyway a few weeks (months?) passed before i discovered the internet archive. i also discovered zach had a lot of great records and thought it was a sin that he didn't have any downloads. not just for me but for everyone. anyway to make a long story long, i told him about it and now hpr is better then ever. i don't mean to brag or anything. the blog was already great. but i wanted to help make it better. and zach's done a lot for this blog. for one thing he's kepped it going by commenting. also i think if it wasn't for him i wouldn't have gotten the prized spot on the blogroll on gbm. so happy birthday hpr. hope you have many more. and thanks for the music! also if it wasn't for hpe i probably wouldn't be working on music. i'm writing songs for a second fucked up society demo. so let's summarise. hpr rules!

go! there is no man 7 ep

this band probably was around too late for some people and that is a shame cause this band put out some great no bullshit hardcore punk. the last track fear of a gay plannet is actually pretty self explanitory. it's making mun of public enimy for being homophobes. interesting. the other songs are well just awesome. not too much to say. get this at mustard relics. and look for a reissue or something. not sure if it's been reissued. i don't really pay attention to everything coming out. on an unrelated topic erich once asked in a comment on his site good bad music something like if people reissue a record with the original booklet and everything why would someone want an original? personally i think it's good. i mean i don't have the money to get the original cause you fucking egay assholes charge so goddamn much for a record with two fucking songs on it because all you can think about is cashing in. i don't like those people. that's why for the longest time i never went on ebay. anyway i support reissues with everything from the original. when i buy a record i want to have it the way someone had it 30 years ago without having to sell my brain to science (not that they'd take it) to pay for a record. ranting done. get this 7 somehow. or don't. i don't really care.

IQ 55 livet ar en bluff 7

well summer is almost over for me and as usuall i have become a damn hermet for the past 2 months at least as far as i haven't had the chance to hang out with anyone unless you count my music. kind of wish i could replay this summer over and do a few things different. oh well. one of my current favs at the moment is IQ 55. the singer is in my list of best voices (how many is that) he really does have a great voice. the first track livet ar en bluff (life is a joke) is um punk? well yeah. i actually read the english version of the lyrics. depressing as fuck. second song is great as well. i really don't want to describe this because i can't. how do you describe perfection? i also have like three demos by them. they were always great. a question for all the guys reading this who know about this this band. that tape from 83. is that the same singer? he sounds a little different. maybe it's just me. still great though. get it at kbd records. but before that comment on this or any other of my 276 posts and tell me how much you love me! if you don't i'll quit blogging. hahah.

jill kossoris invisible cd

okay so here's the thing. i got the problem fixed two days ago. i really wanted to post but just couldn't. i lack the motivation that i need to formulate my thoughts about a record. what that means is i was out of coffee and didn't want to sleep. so last night i went out to the speedway motorcycle races and that restored me to what passes for motivated. actually unlike most times there was no search for what record i was gonna review. for those of you who don't know (shame on you) jill kossoris was the vocalest for one of the best powerpop bands ever. the shivvers. i posted a lot about them and i heard that 20+years later she did a solo album. finally i got off my ass and bought this. what can i say? this actually took some time for me to embrace it. it's different from anything i have in my collection. you can still hear the powerpop but now she includes country and some others. good thing is she still has that voice. a little older but not bad. not bad at all. i find a lot of these songs get stuck in my head even if i don't always agree with the lyrics (i'm a punk who likes gg allin what do you expect?) still if you like the shivvers and don't mind something a little different get this. if you just want hardcore don't worry. i'll give you hardcore. and pretty soon it's happy birthday for hardcore punk reviews. special post for that too.
